Diane Hoeptner: Fantasy Florals

September 17, 2009

There’s something dreamlike about Diane Hoeptner’s paintings of flowers– a quality of a shaded memory of childhood or an afternoon reverie.  Her whimsically casual brushstrokes not only define form, but also add a textural embellishment that makes it difficult to look away from one of these paintings.

Notice the way she handles the glass vessel in the following painting.  My favorite pieces of Hoeptner include the glass vases.  They are a celebration of light and shadow.

Hoeptner even manages to mesmerize by her Dali-esque representation of magnolias.  There’s a stark broodiness to this painting, a hint at the depth and breadth of Diane Hoeptner.
